UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not.
At a time fraught with stereotypes of millennials as self-centered good-for-nothings, the Climate Selfie Project chooses to highlight the extraordinary effort, dedication and achievements of young people engaged in the climate change movement worldwide. With your help, we can turn the selfie’s symbolism on its head: by replacing vanity with selflessness, and redefining selfies as a tool for empowerment and collaboration. Together, we can establish a united youth front on climate change, the greatest challenge of our generation.
The Climate Selfie Project strives to showcase – through the social media tools of our generation – the myriad of youths worldwide who are contributing to the climate change movement. We want to create an interactive space for people to come together: to share their vision and adventures, foster hope, and inspire action. Our team will also be staging an exhibit at the 2014 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20) in Lima, Peru, from Dec 1-12.
We need YOUR help to make this Project a reality, and getting involved is easy! No matter your age, simply snap a selfie and share your reflections on the climate crisis and/or what you are doing about it here (note: feel free to share as many as you like!). With vision and action, we’re rewriting our future for the better – let’s show the world, one #ClimateSelfie at a time…
Behind the Scenes
The Climate Selfie Project is founded by members of SustainUS, a youth-led nonprofit that empowers youths to advance sustainable development at all scales – from their backyards to the United Nations.
This December, 20 SustainUS “Agents of Change” will be travelling to the 2014 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20) to help advocate our generation’s right to a just and stable future. From policy wonks to scientists to activists, and everything in between, we are a group of passionate individuals committed to taking bold action to address the climate crisis. (Check out our vision and mission statements here.)
We hope that this Project will provide an interactive medium through which those involved in the climate change movement can come together to share their reflections, empower one another, and inspire many more. We draw inspiration from the Humans of New York Project, a living testament to the power of storytelling.
To all Doers and Dreamers of the climate change movement in every corner of the world, this one’s for you.
Love & Solidarity,
The ClimateSelfie Team xo
